An Asus EEE 1000HE I bought a couple of weeks ago has suddenly started to boot without the LCD turning on. No lines, no cracks or anything. There is no apparent lcd on/off switch (there is also not one which puts it to sleep). What might be happening?

I plugged it into an external LCD, which did not appear to display anything (even after Fn+F8), but recieved a signal.

Just so you know, I am relatively tech savvy so feel free to ask questions with more advanced terminology.

Nothing on the LCD or external display? Looks like a bad motherboard.

Try this first: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f108/blank-screen-350292.html

If it does not work, try to take the laptop apart, remove the rest, except RAM, mobo, LCD and power ON switch. Power ON using adapter. If symptoms persist then it could caused by one of those left - the motherboard is very likely.
