I was wondering. Just bought the WD 740 raptor disc and is adding it to my Asus A8V deluxe board. But as far as I know the board doesn't support SATA II, NCQ or TCQ... It will be pretty fast anyway, but will I be able to improve it even more by adding a Promise FastTrak TX4200 to the motherboard (It supports all of ot and I'm pretty sure the Raptor supports TCQ, don't really know about NCQ or SATA II).

Any thoughts.... been looking anywhere for answers... but ended up even more confused...

Well, I aquired the Raptor disc and have it installed.

The only question remaining is whether or not I will gain from the PCI-SATA card?? The card contains a few features the motherboard doesn't, but will I gain from it or will the transfeerspeed of the PCI slow me down??

Welcome to TSF:

The sata contoller card will not slow down or bottle neck your hard drive. You may experience a perfromance loss if you were setting up certain Raid configurations (mirrored drives) but not just a stand alone Sata drive / the PCI sata controller sure does however make ease of installation and because they run independant of the IDE contoller (have their own bios) they seem to be much more stable.
A PCI controller is easily able to outperform any single running drive /

The Raptor is a top shelf drive you should see a noticable perfromance improvement over an IDE drive
