hi folks,

three queries in this post so firstly, my aim:-
i'm trying to upgrade to the most recent ASUS bios for an A8N32-SLI Deluxe with an X2 4800+ under XPSP2; i understand it's version 1205.

i've run the bios updater ASUSUPDATEv70602 and 'pointed its nose at' A8N321205.ROM but it came back with the message:-
"the model of the bios image does not match the bios rom currently present. press exit button to exit."

Q1 - what is this feedback actually telling me ? :4-dontkno

Q2 - how does one use a .ROM format file ? :sigh:

Q3 - has anyone here any experience with the AsusBios1805beta version ?

FYI - i took a backup of the original version ?1003? and then updated/flashed the bios to the 1013 version via a bootable floppy. my system is currently running and appears to be stable. all above items downloaded directly from the asus website this week.

thanx for your input.

yo

I'll bet the newest bios version also requires the newest bios flashing tool

I would stick with the DOS based flashing method, the live update versions that are performed within windows really stink, they are an all or nothing adventure. Many users (including myself about 4 diff times) ended up with the nothing :(

all bios updating versions are well detailed in your motherboard manual

dont hesitate to ask more questions

joe, thanx for the i/p.

okay, but no success using the dos flash method i.e.:-
A:>afudos i/1205.ROM OR/AND
A:>afudos i/1205

also tried the 'latest' beta with:-
A:>afudos i/1805.BIN OR/AND
A:>afudos i/1805

they all came back with the error prompt:-
ASF signature not found
ERROR: bios has no flash information available

:4-toilet:

m-a-y-b-e i'm just not using the correct loader

. . . . . . .

i've just grabbed another couple of items from the asus website for my mobo, so i'll give those a try and report back with results - good or bad! so it looks like it's down to combinatiions and permutations

mixed results (surprise! . . . surprise?)

feedback
no - the command A:>afudos /i1205 did not launch the utility, the error prompts were a result of the 'missing' space  when i used the command.

when using A:>afudos /i 1205 - and/or - A:>afudos /i 1205.rom i was still unable to upgrade, even after trying other bios 'loader' versions; which leads me to the conclusion that asus bios upgrade to 1205 is unavailable to me via windows or the command line/dos. i did get a different error prompt, advising me that this file was NOT an award bios file.

result
HOWEVER, via floppy and the command line i managed to leapfrog to 1805 using the bios 'loader', version 1.18, and the 1805.bin file

ongoing
now that i've found the current chipset drivers i can update those, yes - i know i should have done that first :sigh: but . . .

catchya later,

and thank you , again.

The syntax is wrong...

the loader is ok, you just needed to write it like this:

A:>afudos /i/1205.ROM

too bad they don't bother to get the instructions right at ASUS...
