asrock K8Upgrade-VM800 mobo: no sound!

Hi Folks
I've just rebuilt my pc around the above mobo (new hdd, case, optical drives but same cpu) . Sound was previously fine, now no sound at all (do get a POST beep). Drivers installed after installing XP but when tried to install audio driver said 'no audio hardware found' although I'm only using the on-board audio chips BIOS set audio to auto. All Windows controls (volume, mute etc) greyed out. I'm totally foxed as to what is going on...is the audio chip dead? Any advice would be gratefully received!

Many thanks

Geoff

Hello Geoff

whenever you change motherboards you will need to perform a windows xp repair install to remove the old drivers from the windows system ...... then install all the new drivers once you get re-booted and the hardware inventory is new >>>>>> make sure to install all the drivers on the motherboard cd and you will be fine

BTW the windows repair install does not mess with your data or programs

Hi Linderman

I did a repair install and reinstalled the mobo drivers as per your advice but unfortunately..no luck. Device manager still fails to find any sound device (except audio codecs and legacy audio, all of which are enabled) and of course any sound controls/options are greyed out.

As I said before, the sound was Ok before I rebuilt! The only thing I did notice was I had conected the case 'Audio HD' plug to the board rather than the 'AG'97'. Would that have damaged the mobo, I've disconnected them both now but still no joy.

Any idea what might be the problem? I'm definetly stuck! Many thanks.

Geoff
