As the title says. I've been doing quite a bit of reading about the whole thing lately and my opinion for what it's worth I really see no other reason than being forced to by the gaming demands to get directX10 - as it is said to be exclusive to Vista.

I have found XP Pro SP2 to be a delight of an OS in the time i've used it. It never crashes (i do not use automatic updates, hence why) and I'll be sad to leave it, even with a more than capable system like mine for the imminent bloatware we're probably going to get suffocated with using Vista. Most users systems I think will struggle to cope and you'll all soon be wondering why you ever ditched XP.

No performance gains when gaming even using 64-bit processing power. 1GB minimum realistically to run the OS alone. You're paying for a bunch of extravagant themes surely?!?!:4-dontkno

i dont know where you get that you need 1gb for the os alone, it uses about 350mb for the os, similar to windows xp. it feels just as responsive as xp, and is a much more pleasant gui. gaming is a little slower, but my card isnt exactly near the brink of bad frames or anything, i run games under the same settings as xp, usually maxed out at 1280*1024.

i agree with carlos, i dont see a reason either .... the GUI i have now with the Vista Transformation pack and thers supposed to be coming a Directx9 wich supports directx10 games .... but thats not really officially confirmed i believe.

gaming performance has been proven that it is not as great as on xp i could care less about meeting specs as i do but personally the switch of going to a new OS and redoing everything isnt worth the GUI and some small hinker tinker thats uneccesary.

@floydfan shouldnt vista feel more responsive then XP ? :p

@sinc directx10 hardwares out ;) geforce 8's were released last month !
