I have a purdy good racing game with more than decent graphics [Motorhead] that isn't compatible with NT, so I play it on an old gateway [Win98SE]. If I have the graphical options way up [and often times, even if they're very low], the game will skip, frequently ruining a race for me [since I'll crash]. I tried it with an 64 meg nVidia GeForce MX420 [it had a 32 meg nVidia TNT2 before] and it didn't fix a thing. I was just wondering if it's just the CPU, and not the GPU that's causing the skips. It also could be the RAM [merely 64 megs of PC133 ram; not my choice lol]. Anybody have an answer?

64 megs of ram is extremely small by todays standards. For the price of pc133 I would say upgrade that first. Before it goes extinct, its very cheap now. I'd say up to 256mb, if you can. The ram is causing most of your problem.
But not all.

Next, I know the TNT2 very well. Used to have one. They were ok in their day. But move up, the Geforce3 Ti200 and mx series are a good value. Ti's better. That 64mb card you tried is ok, a ti200 with 128mb is agood value but cost vs practicality....Don't think you want to blow $400 on video card so I won't even suggest ATI9500's GFX4 ti4400.
You probably only have a PCI slot? or AGP?

Changing the CPU would probably be the most expensive, and would probably involve changing the the motherboard too. But it is the best solution.

But if you want a band aid fix, try the ram, its the cheaper solution.

lol bartholimew. Thanks for all the help, but I already knew how I could fix it, I just wanted to know if it was the vid card or CPU that was causing the problem (which your post didn't directly answer :p).
