First post here.. So, thank you for all the help I am about to receive ray:

Here's the deal... a Friend of mine (my boss actually) recently moved into the same apartment complex as me.. He's got his computer on a Cable hook up where as due to budgeting I do not..

I would like to know if I (as in he lol) buy a Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router (WRT300N) which would basically wire to his computer in his apartment, then get the Linksys Wireless-N PCI Adapter (WMP300N) installed into my computer for use in MY apartment. That sound logical?

I could not find any "Fact" on actual range on the wireless but was told the N has the best speed/range. Our apartments are in seperate buildings. him being on the 3rd floor, with his windows facing mine in the adjacent building approximately 300ft away without any obstructions.

300ft would be pushing the limits of any wireless network excluding cell phones. might get a signal by your windows but when you move to another room it might drop off cometely. for some reason no one wants to pin down the effective range of 802.11n. anyone out there know what it is?

this is for my PC, not a laptop.. just trying to get internet at my place without paying for it, by getting the wireless signal from a friends apartment.

Well, when speaking with the PC guy at Circuit City, he insited the *G* works well at 300ft, and the *N* would easily "Double" that. Going with the N anyways, always have to figure in the atmospheric complications... don't wan't to be in the upper end of max range and hope the planets are aliegned just properly for a good signal... and if even the N doesn't work, I'll just have to take it back! ..

Anyone able to give a nod on equipment needed? Are the two products I origanally listed the only ones we need for this application? I'm a wired guy.. never went without my cables

And yes, anyone able to put a factual footage on the "N" ?

I seem to recall seeing somewhere that wireless G is only good 100 ft and supposedly n is 10X that. I find it hard to believe. I am looking to someone else for the facts on n's range
