Hi all

Been a long time! So the story goes like this:

After ringing AOL for the 16th time about it going extremely slow after about half an hour I get some Senior Technical guy. We go into msconfig mess about with things in there - all round the system deleting cache files global.org files blah blah blah.

Go back to AOL and it's running worse than ever. Ring up again. Speak to head honcho technical guy and he tells me to go into DOS and ping 172.0.0.1. I get the message: "'PING' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." He also asked me to do something else which gave the same response. So he says that if DOS isn't recognising these commands my pc is ****ed and I need to take it to a specialist!!!!!! Funny how this started happening immediately after they messed with it and it was fine before then but no it's not their fault!!!!!!!!!

Help what does all this mean?

Gotta love aol.

Try removing the TCP/IP protocol from your network properties. Reboot and re-install TCP/IP.

Well at the mo it's all running fine after a scandisk and a tidy up. However it still doesn't recognise those commands so what do you think that means?

Removing and re-installing TCP/IP should re-install ping and other related commands.

so what do you think that means?
It means the first guy had you screw up the TCP/IP stack and now your gonna have to reinstall as Zvalkor said...

 AOL .... it just sucks ...

Moneys not made in the tech support side of things for these guys, so they really don't care who's on staff or how good they are because "free tech support" to their eyes is just a guaranteed loss at the end of the quarter in the form of every tech. reps. salary. They get nothing back, so they really don't care... sad but true.
