Thing is I had an emachine pc so I'm still learning about computers... in college for it now just somet things I never really understood... is there any reason to have my cd rom drive. i'm planning on buying a new dvd burner drive and now and days they come with the whole shebang... so why does my dvd, cd-rw burner from my emachine plays dvds, music, etc, and the cd rom does nothing so should i even bother buying a cd rom? when i put a cd in it.. it just locks my comp up till i take it out anyways..

Hi Xeleron, welcome to TSF

If the drive was in good working order, I'd say keep it, but there's not much point if it's broken.

Your computer can take 4 IDE devices in any combination of hard drives, CD, DVD, etc. The advantage of having 2 or more CD/DVD drives is on-the-fly copying where you put the original CD in one drive and the blank in another.

With only one rom drive you have to copy to the hard drive first, remove the original CD and then put the blank in to burn.

I have 2 DVDRW drives for my multimedia work and would find it difficult to manage with just one. It's up to you if you think you need more than one, it depends on what you'll be using the computer for.
alrighty I see.. well the thing is on my raidmax samurai case the dvd drive and cd rom drive won't lock in there's no holes for it to lock in... i'm guessing it's cause there from emachines which is why i wante do to buy new ones >.<
