Anti-virus ads keep popping up

Anti-virus ads keep popping up and my internet is a bit slow and i do not know what to do. Please help if you can. I am running windows xp and i also use pharos xp becuase this is our buisness computer so i do not know what is a virus becuase this system has some new programs becuase of pharos xp.
