Here is my problem:

My computer is repeatedly getting signal out of range errors. I have tried
two different NEC 445XI monitors and two graphics cards, the Asus below and a
64meg Kyro. Neither combinations seem to make a difference.

The signal out of range error may occur during bootup, after the puter has been
up and running for a short or long time (longest has been about 35 hours).
I have tried with the original BIOS for the MOBO and AGP as well
as with the latest drivers. Again, seemingly no difference.

MOBO and AGP are about 4 months old, both bought on Ebay as new OEM pieces.

Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause? Perhaps know of some diagnostic
software I might try?

signal out of range = too high of a refresh rate. turn the refresh rate from 85 down to like 70 or 75 and see if that works.

I used to get these back when i was a uber comp noob lol and just played around with the settings :laugh:

EDIT: um just a question is that a typo or are u serious 1mb video card ? thats like uber old school there might also ly the problem

hmmm turn down ur resolution to 800x600 and set the refreshrate in windows to 60hz

now another question is how have you tried them ? so your monitor still shows stuff before you switch something ? cause the refresh rate is set by the video card not by the monitor. the signal from the video card will be faster

EDIT: I re read your quesiton and finaly got the whole situation... its not always out of range but just sometimes it just happens correct ?

is it after any specific time ? maybe the monitor overheats or some weird output is happening

EDIT2: By using the uber tool of the ineternet (google ^^) i couldnt find an NEC monitor with that model number ... all that popped up was a nokia 445xi

and this is the nokias max res + refresh rate:

max. resolution: 1600 x 1280, 76 Hz and 1600 x 1200, 80 Hz

so there shouldnt be the problem. What other video card did you try ? I see your using a geforcemx4000 right now, maybe the drivers need to be changed :4-dontkno try to get the latest drivers from nvidia.com and install them reboot and see

Sorry, it is a Nokia monitor, not NEC.

Last night I updated the nvidia drivers to 78.01.

Still using 1280 x 960 resolution and so far so good.

The other video card was a 64meg Kyro card.
