Annoying issue(RESOLVED)

1151 Views 12 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  92b16vx
So I tried one of those icon programs that can change al your icons, it was cool, but I got rid of it. Now the issue is that my C:\ drive icon seems to be gone :(

Anyone know where this icon is, or a way to change it? When I right click on it, it obviously gives me the properties of the C:\ drive, not the typical properties where you can change icons etc...

That doesn't work on the C:\ drive icon, you get the actual disc properties...

I have a feeling I need to find the file that the icons are stored in, and direct one to where I need it, except I believe you can't just open those types of files.

Have you tried a system restore to a date before you installed this program?
Hi,

My Apologies

Can't be done as I thought.

Fired up an XP machine, clicked and couldn't do what I expected to be able to do.

Google finds a number of programs that can help change ICONS.

Try a System Restore back to before you installed this little utility

I reset my restore points shortly after I uninstalled a few programs, and hadn't really noticed it, so I have none before this :(

I already hav TweakUI and have tried to rebuild the cache, all it seemed to do was move my icons to my other monitor.
Right click on the desktop and click properties.
Click the Desktop tab, click Customize Desktop, under desktop icons click Restore Default

Except that's for the Desktop, this is in My Computer, the icon for the C:\ drive. The icon for the C:\ drive is like this glabally, winrar, start menu, etc.

On page I it gives the reg key to change. The original icon for C drive is in System 32\Shell 32.dll.

Cool, just have to find a way to get the original value for the drive icon, then I can edit the reg key to point back at it. Shouldn't be too hard, it's the same icon as the others.

Thanks
This may or may not help. The drive icon is #56-#59 in the shell 32 library.
The sizes are 48x48, 32x32, 16x16.

I installed Regseeker, and saw it had a "Rebuild Icon cache" function, worked like a charm.

Thanks to those that posted. Throoper, I didn't remember to try your advice before using RS, thanks though, still god to know.
