I am looking at getting an alienware computer for gaming and i wonder if i should get AMD or Intel? it looks like the AMD model is about $200 cheaper but if it has worse performance then i will go intel, but i have also heard before that AMD processors are better for gaming..... thoughts?

thanks for help

Depends upon who you are talking to when you ask which is a better performer. For mostly gaming, I would choose the AMD, but overall, the Intel is much better IMHO.

That being said, let the disagreements begin!

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 5200+ Processor w/ HyperTransport and Dual Core Technology

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 6400+ Processor w/ HyperTransport and Dual Core Technology

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E4500 2.2GHz 2MB Cache 800MHz FSB

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz 4MB Cache 1333MHz FSB

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6850 3.0GHz 4MB Cache 1333MHz FSB

Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme QX6850 3.0GHz 8MB Cache 1333MHz FSB

Which one is better for gaming and is the intel one worth the extra $200?

If your mostly going to use this for gaming then go with the Intel any pay the extra $200. You will love the outcome of using an Intel processor over the AMD. Find you a good video card to go with it. I recommend:

EVGA 640-P2-N821 GeForce 8800GTS 320MB PCIE X16 2DVI HDTV Video Card, Model 640-P2-N821 - Retail.

I used to be an AMD faithful. I now don't really have a preference, my processor at the moment is an AMD Athlon 64 3200 @ 2.2ghz, socket 754. I am looking at getting an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHZ or above with 2GB DDR2. Neither is 'better' it is all down to personal preference.

Ya...once you get into the highend..both processors will do the same job, when combined with a good video card. You wont really see a difference in your setup until a few years from now. If you can save on the amd system..i would go for that and put what i saved on high quality ram and gfx card.

I had an AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 4600+ and the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz 4MB Cache 1333MHz FSB kicks its ***. I found a 5 fold increase in overall performance

AMD for the simple reason there build quality.... The days of the Athlon XP 2600+ that ran at 1.92GHZ but could easily compete with a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz. There also alot cheaper compared to Intel's range. Or maybe I'm just a biased AMD Fan.

LOL thanks for the info guys but now i am more confused that before. I mean on the one hand AMD sounds like it will be fine, but others indicate that Intel is worth the extra $200. So hmmm i will just say they both sound great.
