A mate of mine whom I worked with asked me which would be the best here:::: I said I'd ask YOU as his english written language ain't so good.
The difference in price of these two set-ups is negligable (prices are from another site)

1. AM3 set-up

MB Asus M4A78T-E, Socket-AM3
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=434394

CPU AMD Phenom™ II X4 810 Quad Core
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=434397

RAM Corsair XMS3 DHX DDR3 1333MHz 4GB CL9
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=346872

AM2+ set-up

MB Asus M4A78-E, Socket-AM2+/AM3
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=434393

CPU AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=422096

RAM Corsair TWIN2X PC8500 DDR2 4GB KIT CL5
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=366762
OR this RAM
RAM Corsair TWIN2X PC6400C4DHX DDR2 4GB
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=346193

What he want to know is ..is it worth choosing a lower clocked AM3 cpu and going with a DDR3 MB/RAM
oR is it better to stick with AM2+ higher clocked CPU with a MB that will take a AM3 BUT will only take DDR2 RAM...

Possible future upgrade path??? V better system now???
PLEASE...he wants AMD.not INTEL....can't argue with him (for a start on understand half he says...only joking)
:)

Will your friend be overclocking the CPU?

If yes, the second option is far better (AM2+/DDR2). DDR3 is not worth anything on the AMD platform and it performs slower than DDR2 whilst being more expensive.

You can buy any of the currently released and (at least) remaining 12 months of CPU's from AMD and run them in DDR2 motherboards without a problem.

RAM is your own choice but DDR2-1066 is hardly at all faster than DDR2-800 with AMD CPU's so I would stick with the cheapest option.

Just one more thing don't know if it belongs here or HD support...
Will he see any difference (using PC for games ..some video editing..and normal day to day stuff)

Choice 1. 640GB Samsung SpinPoint F1 HD642JJ 640GB 16MBS-ATASerial ATA-3008.9msn/an/a7200rpm3.5 3year price 668 kr

Choice 2. 640GB Western Digital Caviar Black SATA II 640GB 32MBS-ATASerial ATA-3004.2msn/an/a7200rpm3.5 5 year price 731 kr

Choice 3. 750GB Samsung SpinPoint F1 HD753LJ 750GB 32MBS-ATASerial ATA-3008.9msn/an/a7200rpm3.5"n/ 3 year Price 735 kr

AS you can see all these are very close in price... 668, 731, 735 kronor which ain't much..
So the question is is the wD 640 Gb worth it..or is the Samsung 750Gb better ??( read some dodgy reviews on the samsung 750...but good reviews on the 1tb version ...why that is ..I for one have absolutely no idea whatever in the world , solar system, universe..etc etc...you get my drift...
any advice most welcomed ..even if its moving this to where it should be...

ta much..
