Hi there,
I have bought my friends laptop and see it has alot of processes and services running, which are using alot of the memory, and making it run sluggish at times.
Just wondering if you great people can advise me on what to get rid of...
I have done an online virus scan with trend micro and bitdefender and found nothing, used both adaware and spybot to remove some stuff.
Now here is my hijack this log.

Hello Chris,

As we really don't know what your needs and preferences are, it would be difficult to tell you what to disable at startup. I would suggest you use this site where you'll find information explaining what these processes are and whether or not they need to be running at start up, or continuously running in background for proper operation of Windows.

I can tell you that Panda Titanium is extremely heavy on the resources. If you haven't already purchased this program, I would suggest viewing this thread PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need? for suggestions on alternative AV programs.

----------------------------------------------------------

Download and install CleanUp! (Not Recommended for XP64).

*WARNING* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp! or move them to a permanent location.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
  • Click on the "Temporary Files" and uncheck the box for "Scan drives for file matching" if it's checked.
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

Reboot/logoff when prompted.

----------------------------------------------------------

You can fix these:

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. 'Check' the following entries:

Fix all of those Logitech O18 entries except the first one, and the very last one listed--leave these 2 intact:

O18 - Protocol: bw+0 - {B3CF5BFB-7184-449C-A5A7-8A334608D087} - C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BWPlugProtocol-8876480.dll
O18 - Protocol: offline-8876480 - {B3CF5BFB-7184-449C-A5A7-8A334608D087} - C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BWPlugProtocol-8876480.dll

Click 'Fix Checked' and close HijackThis.

What sort of 'stuff' did AdAware and Spybot find?
