Howdy. Posting in accordance with the BSOD Posting instructions.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64
This is the OS that came installed on the system
OS installed from OEM Alienware Win7 CD that came with system (not retail)
System Acquired 11/2010 (refurbished from Dell Outlet System Exchange)
Windows 7 Clean installed on 02/2012.

CPU: Intel Core i7-x920
Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 1GB (Not Crossfire)
MB: Alienware m17x-R2 motherboard with Intel Series 5 / PM55 Chipset
PSU: Alienware 240W power adapter

System Mfgr: Alienware (Dell)
System Model: m17x-R2

I just got my first BSOD last night. My system was sitting idle when it happened and restarted afterwards. It was working fine beforehand and is working fine afterwards. I have not done any upgrades since installing my new SSD and HDD (Kingston HyperX SSD and WD Scorpio Black HDD) in 02/2012. Last driver update was in 04/2012 and it was my Intel 6300 Wifi adapter driver; before that my ATI drivers were updated in 03/2012.

Hi radji,

Check for a firmware update for your SSD. Also check if there's a BIOS update for your M17x that might be applicable to your problem.

Did your ATI drivers update come from Dell/Alienware? If not, can you uninstall the current drivers completely and download and install the latest ones from the Dell/Alienware site for your laptop.

I see a number of older drivers, these all need updating if they are vital, removing if they're not (details at Driver Reference Table if they're not from Dell/Alienware):

Uninstall the Symantec/Norton software completely during testing (use their removal tool afterwards to ensure it's all gone: https://www-secure.symantec.com/nor...10133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home). Install MSE Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows and enable the built-in Windows firewall.
