AGP slot question

I got a p4vmm2 computer that contains an AGP slot. my problem is that the manual says that it's a 4x AGP 1.5V only slot. what does that mean? i'm preparing to buy an old G-force FX 5500 but i hesitated when i saw in the box that it's a 8x AGP card. does that mean this card won't run on my computer? if yes can you provide me with a list of the recent cards that can run onto my PC.

thanks a lot, u're always the best :heartlove

"4x AGP 1.5V only slot" means that your motherboard can accept any kind of AGP card other than an old AGP 1X,2X 3.3V card. It is compatible with AGP 8X cards. The grisly details of AGP compatibility can be found here.
thanks a lot. that was a great help, as usual :heartlove
well ... i got a problem here ...

i have intel D865PERL mobo .. and it has a agp 4x 8x 1.5 v slot ... i am getting a Radeon x550 256mb pci express x16 card (still in the shipping).

will i be able to use the graphics card ? i have a geforce4 440 mx in the agp slot ...

how will i connect the new graphics card ? .. in the agp slot ? or in any of the pci extension slot and remove the gf4 ?

No, you can't stick a PCI-E card into an AGP slot. You would have to put it into the PCI-E slot, which I hope you have, because if not, it won't work.
i am not clear :( whats PCI-e ? aret they the pci slots (where soundcard, lan card fits) ?

in that case .. will i have to take the current geforce out? (to avoid any conflict or anything).
PCI is an entirely different interface than PCI-e. If you have any type of AGP slot, you can't use PCI-e. It's either regular PCI, AGP, or PCI express and none of them is compatible with the others.
tht means i have to send that graphics card back :( :(
correct, to confuse you even more, some of the VERY new boards (5 months) do have PCI-e and agp, but only if u intentionally purchased one would you end up with one...
Wow, really? That's pretty neat. Thanks for clearing that up, I hate to mislead.
no worries fox, sometimes things are odd like that.

like people not beleiving that my windows 98se cd isn't bootable.

and people saying there aren't boards that use SD-Ram or DDR on the same board.

there's always exceptions.
i dont have pci-e for sure :( theres only one black agp slot and all the else are normal pci :(

at this place .. i am buying a Fujiplus FP-FX5200 Geforce FX5200 128MB 128-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card from new egg ... its for several months till i buy a new mobo :)will cost like 30 + ship after the rebate :)

any suggestions .. below 50 ?
below $50 lets see...
the only other deal is this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814166003

but for 30 for a 5200 is amazing, even though a 5200 is terrible, the 9550 wont be that much better. a 9600pro is the first step you would notice a huge difference, but those go for 70-100
yeah .. its amazing ... talking abt longevity .. i need tht for few months(say 6 ..) ... thts it .. it will be ok if it runs games (at least RUN .. might be under lowest specs) .. the plus points i see ..

no fan (so i dont have to worry abt whether its running or not .. i dont run games for like .. more than 2 hrs at a row)

128bit interface ...
5200=$40 --> comes with 25fps in the newest games
6200=$80 --> comes with 60fps in the newest games
6600=$110 --> comes with 100fps in the newest games
figureing out how much to spend... alot of thought and a slap on the face after you spend the money.
Agp Ga-6ea

recently, my more sophisticated pc packed up. So now I need to save. But in the mean time, I have gone back to my (very) old Gigabyte GA-6EA mobo. It has a AGP slot, but my TNT2 won't work. The display is fine, but as soon as I run any 3d programs, it bombs out. Half-life 1 for example loads till it the axtual game starts, and then freezes. Unreal Tournament runs a while, and then also kicks back to Windows. And so on. Nfs 3 and 4.

In can't be the drivers, because my previous pc worked with the same card and drivers, and also Xp. It must be some setting in BIOS or something. When I load BIOS default, it says the graphics card could not start. When I load SETUP defaults in BIOS, it works in windows, but not 3d applications! And I seem to be the only one having this problem, because I can't find and forums about it.

Any suggestions, or should I just wait till the end of the year and buy a new everything?
