AGP Slot Help

838 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  keatoru
I have an AGP slot on my mobo. When I run dxdiag it shows me the chipset of the gfx card is "RAGE 128 PROII, (AGP 4X/PCI)".

In the parentheses, is that the slot i have AGP 4X? I need to know because the gfx i am thinking of getting is AGP 8x. Stupid question but does the #X even matter or is it just that it is an AGP Slot?

This page explains the AGP compatibility issues in detail.
that barely helped me. that doesn't tell me what kind of slot i have.
You can tell by opening the machine and looking at the AGP slot. You can match it by the pictures of the voltage keys to see what kind of slot you have. If you don't want to do that then you can check your motherboard chipset against the table given at the bottom of the page. As the page explains, you can use CPU-Z to find your chipset. Then look it up on the table on the page and that tells you what version AGP slot you have.
ok that helps me a lot more thank you
