Not much. It's really just a falicy at this point. When testing similar cards at 8x and 4x, there's generally about a 1% difference in performance.....if that.
In theory, 8x is twice as fast. In actuality, until the video boards become fast enough to require information faster than 4x can provide it, there isn't much difference.
