I really have no idea where to start. I recently used Auslogic BoostSpeed to defrag and clean my system. I also did a Windows update shortly afterwards. After both of these were done, my computer became practically unusable. Every program I open takes forever to load and many of the programs will just refuse to respond. I have tried a system restore, but that didn't achieve anything. I have a custom build desktop for gaming, but it is rendered useless as I can't load a single game. Could it be a virus? I am just lost, as I don't know where to even start.

Hi, and welcome to the forums, the util you have used Auslogic boost speed has had the opposite effect. It is supposed to include an undo function have you tried that?

What often happens is a reg "cleaner" removes some needed entries, windows updates seeking to mod some values cannot find them, your Anti Virus thinks something is wrong and you end up with all sorts of problems. It is exactly for this reason that expert advice is to NEVER use a reg cleaner.

I do believe I tried the Restore function on Boost Speed when I first encountered my problem, but it still didn't fix anything.
I've heard the Register Cleaners are important to use to keep your PC up to speed. Should I not bother with them in the future?

You should avoid them like the plague in the future; they tend to do more harm than good.

Hi, every registry contains entries unique to that computer. The programs you install, the settings for different users, the modifications you might make. A registry cleaner can not know what is unique to your system as opposed to another, they are therefore by definition offering to do the impossible, it is as you have found out more likely then not to end in tears.

Ms themselves, attempted, then abandoned developing a registry cleaner. The registry is a data base and the files are read just like any other file, very quickly. So called invalid and null entries plus left over data from uninstalls will populate the registry.

However, windows will ignore these entries when accessing the registry, and as a system reads data so fast it is difficult to measure you would never be able to notice the difference. There are exceptions, especially in relation to deeply embedded Utils like Anti Virus programs, it is for this reason that the developers make available special programs to remove their product, these are recommended.

Thanks a lot! Would you suggest a repair install to fix this? That seems to be the consensus so far

Hi, if you could back up your data and do a fresh install it would mean you have a fresh start, either way a repair install or a clean install you will solve your problem.
