I have:
P4 2.66 GHz
WIN XP Home
1024 MB DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 128 MB

Lately I've been thinking about overclocking my processor a bit and seeing what the results are. It should be noted that I have a 500W power supply but no extra cooling in my system. What I'm wondering is: A.) Will it make that much of a performance difference with these specs if I overclock? B.) How much can I overclock and remain safe?
Thanks.

Hello Joe,

Your specs seem pretty good. Even decent for online gaming. I would not recommend you to overclock since i have fried some circuits myself :D If you really want to experience it this site has the best information on overclocking. Take your time and read a lot till you feel %100 confinent.

Have fun and be careful :D

I can run games like HL2 and BF2 perfectly fine at max details, but Age of Empires 3, while smooth, is getting just a little choppy from time to time. I'm just starting to wonder about getting an extra boost to smooth things out a bit without having to spend more money.
