Hi,
I have an Advent 8315 model number EAA-89 and it wont power up, there is a red light on when the mains is plugged in and the battery light comes on.

Hi did you try try just booting up with the ac adapter after holding down the power button

yeah. There is power going to it, it just wont power up

Is the dc jack damaged ie you need to alter the position of the cable when plugged int the dc jack port,are there any other lights showing on the machine

there are two red lights that come on when it is plugged in. One goes off after a bit ( I assume this is the battery charging light)

Does the fan spin or the hdd

No, nothing starts

is the power button stiff or stuck sorry for all the questions but we have to look for a reason which involves a lot of trial and error

No, you can hear it click and you can press it down easily

Hi how comfortable would you feel either testing with a multimeter or opening up the machine

very, I was going try that next. I just need to get hold of a multimeter.. The fan moves freely when turned and its quite clean inside

Yeah testing from the dc jack to the motherboard would be a starting point also testing the ac adapter just to rule out any possible issues there
