:coffee:

Getting a driver for your monitor will not help (in my experience)all my monitors just read "default monitor" and I can still get high resolution, whatever graphics adapter you have your monitor plugged into is what you need the driver upgrade for.

Take a look at your Display Adapter and post back with the Specs of the adapter including Manufacturer.

Note: To find this info, Control Panel > System > Device Manager Tab > Display Adapters

Sorry , I was not clear about my prob. what I am trying to find out (and where to look) is where will i find out what drives my adapter there are no pci cards apart from the modem the monitor is plugged into the motherboard and it is a "TIME" machine, and I cannot get their installation disk to run (setup disk 8) it will not let me install and the adpter shows only STANDARD VGA it was ok until i formatted the harddrive ---- I can take strong language but not harsh words so be kind! Thanks for your time though i do appreciate Tony

I am not doing things right let me start again,
i have a monitor = samsung 55e and have now got the driver (thanks for links) the driver is loaded but the graphics adapter is on board type and only lets me use the 2 or 16 colour and 400 600 pixels in other words it is not allowing me to use the monitor in the higher resolution and i cannot find the name of the on board driver adapter --- you people are really quick with the help though I wish i had found you 3 yearsago Thanks Tony

See if you get a bios string when you turn the machine on?

Like TheTechIsIn said you need video card drivers.

On the first screen you will see upon bootup there will be a string of numbers on the bottom left of the page.

Something like

2A59L-XXXX-XXX
Or
51-1506-XXXX-XXXX
Or
12/09/1999 i440LX

Write down these numbers exactly as you see them and post them here...
