I was watching old series and episodes on a site in Firefox and it was infested with pop up hidden click ads. When I started playing the episodes, random windows opened itself in background. But didn't load. I thought Ghostery and adblock killed the pop ups anyways.
So after watching the episodes, I video chatted with my friends on facebook in Google Chrome. Before shutting down the pc, I found those pop up windows in firefox are still not closed and I found they loaded very well and redirected to adult chat sites. Though my adblockers are active and they were working even few days ago.

And I'm paranoid now since my camera was on. Is this possible while Google Chrome was using my camera for facebook, firefox can hijack it without my intended permission?

I have taped over ALL webcams on computers ever since my laptop kept popping the camera on randomly at odd hours of the early morning over a year ago. Allegedly there is a "back door" built into EVERY net connected webcam that allows "big brother" or whoever to activate it an any time. I also have them all DISABLED in Device Manager. The only device I ever use for camming (Skype or similar) is an iPad that I can be sure is OFF and safely packed away in a zippered case when not in use.

Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean someone is not out to get you!

I have ABP advanced popup blocker installed on Firefox 43 in Linux Mint 17.3 I have not yet had any popups appear.
I dont use facebook but some of the apps in facebook want access to your contacts list, email address, camera etc. it is possible that some app on facebook is using your hardware, not hijacked but with permission from an installed app.

If still paranoid you may be able to disable your webcam:

Well just to confirm that we both understood the same -

My camera was occupied by Facebook in Google Chrome. I later found Firefox opened popup windows redirecting to adult sites. So I was concerned that Whether the Firefox pop-up windows could access my camera while Google Chrome was using it or not.

Mine is too Firefox 43, ABP advanced on Ubuntu 15.04. And I'm on pc. My camera is wired and can be disconnected by the usb wire.

One reason I guessed for the adblockers to not work that a recent Firefox update is pending.
