I suspect my computer is infected and I'd like to post a HJT log. However, I can't seem to make it through the ad-aware scan! Each time, it gets stuck at C:\Program Files\Canon\PhotoRecord\Art\textframes.

So far, I've run Spybot search and destroy, CWS shredder and the trendmicro scan linked to in the sticky at the top of this message board. I also did Windows update.

My computer is very slow lately and sometimes freezes. I appreciate any help and advice. I'm afraid I don't know also about computers, but I can follow directions well!

Thank you, krhuda

Download HiJackThis - this program will help determine if there's any malware on your computer.

1. Double-click on the file you just downloaded.

2. Click on the "Unzip" button to install the newer version.

3. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\HiJackThis\

4. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose - Do a system scan and save a logfile.

5. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit [Scan] and then click on Save log.

6. Post the HiJackThis.log file here.

Thanks sUBs, here's how it went: I downloaded Cleanup and removed ViewPoint. When I ran HijackThis to remove the items listed, I could not find
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

The other items you listed I checked and removed.

I enabled the viewing of hidden files but could not find ViewPoint. Ran cleanup then Kasapersky which found a ton of stuff but didn't have a remove or clean up button. Here's what it found:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\IwhlnC.exe Infected: Backdoor.Win32.VB.nb

Scan process completed.

Ran Trend Micro no problem, cleaned, reboot and ran it again. Those results were competely clean but I could not find an antispyware.log. Here's the latest HijackThis.

Well, thanks again. I sure appreciate this very much.

Locate and delete the following files/folders: (let me know if you fail to find/delete any)
  • C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\Data\all_files4.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\Data\Data\incredifind.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\IwhlnC.exe

Reboot & post a new HJT log.
Also let me know if you still have other issues with your machine

daesniper,

Please do not post your HJT log into somebody else's thread. I have created a new thread for you here.

Its hard to say if the computer is running better yet or not. I've hardly used it but it hasn't frozen up since we first started and that's a big improvement. Thank you!

There were two all_files4.exe. One where you specified (C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\Data\all_files4.exe ) which I deleted, and another at C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\Data\Data\all_files4.exe. Should I delete this one too?

I could not find C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\Data\Data\incredifind.exe. There was nothing else in Data\Data.

Also could not find IwhlnC.exe in C:\WINDOWS\system32.

Here's another hijackthis log. Thanks again for your time and help.

Quick question - Is this folder created by you?

Before fixing anything, please download the Suspicious File Packer from here:

http://www.safer-networking.org/files/sfp.zip

Unzip it to the desktop and run it.

Paste the following list of bad files into the Suspicious File Packer window:

C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\Data\all_files4.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\Data\Data\all_files4.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\Data\Data\incredifind.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\Data\incredifind.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\IwhlnC.exe

Allow SFP to pack the files. This will generate a CAB archive on your desktop.

Please email the files to this address - sUBs[at]techsupportforum.com (replace [at] with @)

Please include a link to this topic in the message.

After you have emailed me the files, download & launch KillBox v2.0.0.175.exe

Run KillBox & paste the following locations into KillBox:
  • C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\Data
Checkmark the following boxes :
  • Delete on Reboot
    [*] DelTree (include SubDirectories)
Click the RED X button
Answer YES when asked to confirm file deletion
Answer NO when prompted to reboot now

Then, paste this other location into KillBox:
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\IwhlnC.exe
Checkmark the following boxes :
  • Delete on Reboot
Click the RED X button
Answer YES when asked to confirm file deletion
Answer YES when prompted to reboot now

Let me know how that went

I just emailed you requested-files. I hope I did everything right. Downloaded Killbox no problem, put in C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\Data to delete and hit the red x. Got a message box titled 'File Access' that said 'This File could not be Deleted.'

Should I try deleting C:\WINDOWS\system32\IwhlnC.exe through Killbox?

I have amended my previous instructions about using Killbox.

Please use the revised instructions to bypass the "access denied" limitation.

Everything went perfectly that time. Also, put my contribution in the mailbox for pick up while my computer was rebooting...

What's next? Here's another HJT log.

Your log appears clean but that rogue Data folder still worries me. I like to ask you to do me a favor by doing another online scan froma different source.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
  1. Click Scan your PC & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
  2. Click Scan Now
  3. Enter your e-mail address & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveX controls
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
  • Click on see report. Then click Save report
Post the contents of the report in your next reply

*You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
*Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Uninstall the following programs, if present, using Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs:
  • SUPERBAR

If you have not done so already, please enable the viewing of Hidden files
From Windows Explorer, go to Tools>Folder Options> View tab.
  • Tick - Show hidden files and folder
  • Untick - Hide file extensions for known types
  • Untick - Hide protected operating system files
Click Yes to confirm & then click OK

Locate and delete the following files/folders: (let me know if you fail to find/delete any)
  • C:\GatorPatch.log
    C:\keys.ini
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\_SUPERBAR
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Lycos
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\requested-files[2005-11-08_09_42].cab

Run CleanUp again & then reboot your computer

Please post a new HJT log after that

SUPERBAR was not listed in my programs under Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs so I was unable to remove it.

I located and deleted
C:\GatorPatch.log
C:\PROGRAM FILES\_SUPERBAR
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Lycos
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\requested-files[2005-11-08_09_42].cab

Was not able to locate or delete C:\keys.ini

Ran cleanup and rebooted. Here's my hijack this:
