I am running acrobat reader on windows XP with IE6. When attempting to open a pdf file in IE I get a blank white page. I do not see the acrobat flash screen showing its activation. I have uninstalled and reinstalled... and tried different versions 5. - 6. I even checked the different profiles on the local computer finding all the results to be the same. I also checked under IE security and customized the activex, as well as setting it as default. And finally, I have also checked in acrobat to make sure the preferences are how they are supposed to be for IE. The only thing I can really think is that the registry setting for this feature is not correct. I have been unsuccessful in finding support for this issue online. Everyone points back to the preferences for Acrobat.

If you have a download manager installed, and have it configured for PDF files, that's what will happen. I happen to prefer that operation, and that's how I have my GetRight configured. :)
