I have just inherited an old acer travelmate laptop 4150 which when turned on goes straight to a blue screen with boot options: Harddrive, cd drive etc
And nothing i have been able to do has changed this.

I have already played around with the boot device order and tried to have it boot from an old win98 cd i have but nothing happens.

I suspect its got something to do with the hard drive because when i took it out and tried again it started running the boot cd. But of course when i got to the install screen it told me i had no HD in.

I noticed that the HD does make some funny noises when i first turn it on but on the outside evrything seems fine.

anyone got any ideas?

I wanted to double check with you guys before going out and buying another HD.

Boot to the Bios and run a hard disk diag. It will tell you if the HD is Ok.

heard bout trying that but cant seem to find it in the bios menu.

how do i start the diag?
