I have an acer atheros laptop running vista. my screen split into fourths, then upon restart went completely black. On the acer site it recommended installing a new bios. I followed directions but no success. Any ideas on a solution? (I tried the reply to disconnect the battery etc... no good.)

A few things to check.... Go into BIOS setup. Does the screen show the same problem? How about with an external monitor? If you want to test further, run a different OS like Knoppix in liveCD. These tests will tell you if it is Windows drivers related or not.
