The above lap top boots up and each time "One of your disk needs to be checked for consistency". I let the scan run then log in etc. Desktop continues to load as normal for about two minutes then screen goes to blue with writing for about a second so you get no chance to read what it says and then restarts.

All advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks

To read the screen you need to disable automatic restarts. When booting tap the F8 key like you would do if trying to get into safe mode. On the menu where the safe modes etc. are, one of them should say "disable automatic restarts" disable them and next time you get a BSOD it will stay on the screen so you can read it. Sometimes they point to a specific device and/or driver. Also the numbers can be searched on google and you can get more info that way. There will be one string of numbers followed by 4 strings in parentheses. It's the first ones that are the most important the other ones are the parameters. For example, let's say the first set is something along the lines of 0x000000008E, then you could search 0x8E and get a bunch of stuff. Any bsod also leaves a minidump file in c:\windows\minidumps which can be read in the windows debugger. Not a whole lot of people can interpret them and you may wish to post the file as an attachment(in .zip format) in the xp forum. There are a few there who can read them and are extrememly helpful and finding the root cause of bsod's. Hope that helps.

Think the problem may be caused by installing Kodak Easyshare G610.

Total error is:

STOP: 0x0000007E
(0xc0000005, 0x00000000, 0xf8ac07c8, 0xf8ac04c4)

Again any help is appreciated

I'd try going into safe mode (same F8 thing when booting) and try and uninstall the Kodak software from there. Then try a normal startup and see if you still get the blue screen. There's 3 safe modes, with networking, without, and command prompt. Try the networking one first, as if it loads in safe mode you can access the internet. It may not work in safe mode, but I think it should as that loads a minimal set of driver's etc. and some 3rd party programs will not be functional. With any luck you won't get a blue screen and it'll fully load. Another thing you might try is to go into start - run - msconfig and uncheck the kodak software so that it doesn't load when you boot up.

I have am having the EXACT same problem!

Inititially I thought it was because I had loaded OpenOffice.org and that it wasn't compatable with XP ... but after uninstalling it (and a couple other programs) and rolling my system back to the original settings, the problem continues.

I try to start up (normally) and it loads and will go 'round in a loop ... flashing a blue-and-white-screen before rebooting and going through the whole process over-and-over ... sometimes it will just freeze on my desktop (with icons showing), but no task bar, no mouse pointer ... etc.

When I load in safe mode, I'm not able to do much ... the moment I open a program or try to access my "start/programs" section, it crashes.

The machine insists on checking itself everytime it restarts.

I've complained to the vendor, but they insist there's nothing wrong with the machine and will send it in for repairs (4 weeks +) because it's still under warranty.

Any ideas what it could be? I've only had it for 2 weeks!

It's so damned frustrating ...

Any assistance would be appreciated. Please email me at: [email protected]

One thing, it did start up normally this morning (thurs, 16 Oct 08) and ran for about an half hour before a blue-and-white-screen flashed up and then it restarted itself. Absolutely nothing I try (uninstalling software, rolling back the OS, etc.) seems to work. Yet the machine worked fine up until this past week-end?! Then, suddenly on Sunday it started crashing ... repeatedly!

Thanks,
Michael
