Hi all,

I've been running an A8V Deluxe with two 1GB OCZ Platinum DDR 400 sticks for a year or so. Here is a link to the part on newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227210.

So I picked up a couple more sticks and put them in the machine and it won't boot or even let me get to the bios setup. It gives the following error info...

USB Device Over Current Status Dectected !!
System Will Shut Down After 15 Seconds.

No options. It won't go into BIOS setup. Nothing.

My first step was to take all the RAM out and boot up with only the new RAM in the first and second slots. Presto Magico! No problem. In my mind that rules out bad RAM but if someone knows better please pipe in.

So I did some searching and I've bumped into this in a couple of locations on the net but no definitive solution. Has anyone run into this problem and been able to solve it.

Hi Jeff,

Just from looking at the error, I would try and unplug all the USB devices and boot. The motherboard does support a max of 4 GB of RAM. I would make sure your first two sticks are in the same color slot and your new two sticks are in the same color slot. Also, if that doesn't work, try reseting the CMOS.

Thanks a bunch for the reply. I was able to get things working by explicitly setting the timings for my RAM. I'm sure that seems obvious to anyone with a strong hardware background, but I'm kind of new to building my own boxes and I just made the dumb assumption that the best setting would be auto and let the board figure things out.

Glad you got it working. It wasn't a dumb question, don't worry. Thanks for posting the solution.

BTW, what did you set the timings to? You should be able to put them on 2-3-2-5 and have it work.

Thanks Matt. I did use the 2-3-2-5 timings. I found them on the OCZ webpage for the memory.
