Would putting an AMD 3800+ X2 CPU in an Asus A8N Deluxe with its original BIOS version damage either unit or not be able to boot?

I plan to update the BIOS as soon as the computer starts (before even having the harddrive connected) but if the chip is unsupported, would I need a second chip just to perform the update?

Welcome to TSF:

A much cheaper solution is to get a new bios chip flashed with the most recent version (maybe $15.00 ????) do a search on ebay "bios chip" then look for a vendor named ANGELIB I have used him many times / he ships fast and is very responsive / I cant say that about some of the others on there though !!!!

if your current bios does not support the newer processor ??? it wont damage it / it just wont boot up ????

regards

OK then

Wow that was completely unhelpful. I don't think solution 'go buy a flash bios chip' has anything to do with my problem. Flashing a bios is 30 seconds of work.
