A7N8X Poor IDE performance

I give help much more often than I need it, but this one has me kerfuddled...

My A7N8X Deluxe has really poor IDE performance with my LG 52X CR-RW drive under Windows 2000. It'll max out at a 12X burn using Roxio EZ-CD 5.1 copying from the HD to the CD-R. It sinks to 4-5X when I try a disc to disc copy.

It uses the default Windows 2000 IDE driver, but I can't seem to find anyone else complaining about their performance. Is everyone just using XP now, or could my system be a lemon? I haven't benchmarked anything yet, but the WD 80-JB hard drive seems to work pretty quick, so it's hard to say.

Check Device Manager under ATAPI controllers and see if the connection to the CD is PIO or UDMA. I'm guessing you're running PIO and that's what's slowing you down.
HA! *Whacks self in head*

Guess I've been growing too accustomed to the auto-detect in Windows getting better and better. I've never had occasion to go searching for those settings before in 2K, and never thought to look in that spot for them. I didn't think the DMA/PIO mode switch would have that dramatic an impact, either.

I just burned off an ISO at around 40x with buffer underrun protection enabled. I guess that means it works. :) Thanks alot!
