I am not sure which APC UPS to buy as there are so many in the market. I currenty run a basic Quad Core machine with a 500W psu with a x800xt (soon to be HD3850 or 70) with 3 drives. Price is not an issue though I only would like to use the backup for of course my machine and 19" monitor mainly and other misc. stuff. Thoughts/opinions?

While I prefer Tripplite myself, APC is an excellent UPS, APC also has a UPS selector to help you find the UPS that best fits your needs, just plug in your system specs and components and it will give a list of reccomended units. http://www.apcguard.com/UPS-Interactive-Selector.asp
I would say the APC BACK-UPS 1200VA or anything in between 900VA and 1500VA will do nicely, with room to grow a bit.
