I came across these variable valve orifice tubes for CCOT A/C systems when looking at A/C parts online. I have read some technical discussions that say they are designed to improve cooling at idle or low speeds.

Anyone have any real world experience with them? do they work? They cost about $30.00 while the regular fixed ones are about $3.00.

I've used a couple in the past year or so.They seem to work ok and I've had no complaints.To really judge them you would almost need two cars next to each other.I've also have had no problems with the standard orfice tube.If the system is apart for other repairs it can't hurt but it's nothing I'd install just to improve the system by it's self.

Thanks for the reply, Doc. I wouldn't open the system just for that... but I have a noisy compressor and even though it is cooling well I am worried that it might grenade itself. So I may replace it in the not too distant future. If so, I think I'll give the variable orifice tube a try since there's plenty of stop and go here in the DC metro area. :-(
