A/C and Heating kill engine

Me again! I got new belts installed and that eliminated the squeal issue completely. Now I'd just like to why my engine dies when I try to use the A/C or heater. I can hear the clutch for the compressor engaging and can see the techometer drop below 500rpm. Sometimes it just drops down to 0. Any ideas, guys?

Car should be equiped with a high idle solenoid to increase engine rpm which should compensate when the A/C is on. Most likely it is faulty.
Since you had a problem with squealing belts it may indicate a blockage in the gas circuit of the A/C. If this occurs A/C compressor may lock up and stall the engine.
Hmm, hadn't thought of that. The compressor is barely a year old and was brand new when installed. I'll investigate the solenoid
