9800Pro BUSTED? HELP

821 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  ebackhus
Installed a Sapphire 9800 Pro 256MB AGP card last night to an old motherboard, after a few hours of running I was getting VPU Recovery errors and eventually when resolved the graphics in my games resembled the image at: http://photobucket.com/albums/b163/...nt=graphics.jpg

We've tried reinstalling drivers, installing catalyst drivers 5.6-5.8 and Omega 5.8 drivers, tried new motherboard with more BIOS settings, is this a hardware overheating problem? It was running hot earlier but we added some better thermal compound and it seems to be running cool now, no XT so no temp. monitoring =/

Suggestions/Comments? Help needed, kthxbye

By the way, the anomaly isn't related to texture, it looks like it's covering the graphics instead of a problem with the graphics, just FYI

THANKS

That link ended up at a 404 error page. Have you tried to turn down the AGP speed and disable fast writes? The next step is to try running it with a small fan blowing over it. If that still doesn't then you underclock it using ATiTool. If that fixes it, then get an RMA, that's an unacceptable fix for a new product.
sorry, here's the problem: http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b163/tmoe28/graphics.jpg

will test all the stuff, let you know
Looks like damaged pixel pipelines. Underclocking might fix it but it's unlikely. Do the artifacts come up suddenly or over time? If it's over time then it may be a temperature issue. Give the cooling and underclocking tricks a try and let me know how it works out. We may be truly looking at an RMA.
