what would cause the engine to die when you take the oil cap off. before that I just replaced the rod bearings and the car has another knock from the top end. on the bearings it was a rod knock so I just replaced the bearings on the last bearing by the trans there was no bearing left.i cleaned everything out. and put in new bearings.now the top end is knocking.

The reason this occurs is the oil pressure sensor picks up a sudden drop in oil pressure and believes there is no oil pressure. this is done to prevent damage to the engine. The ECM does not know you are taking the oil cap off or if the oil pump is failing. My 93 GT does the same when the cap is removed.
