im looking into buying a new laptop and i have two im comparing right now and one major diffrence in the two is the ram clock speed they bouth have 2 dimms filled dont know dual channel or not but one has 6GB DDR3 1066MHz SDRAM (4096MB+2048MB) and the other has 6GB DDR2 800MHz SDRAM (4096MB+2048MB) im not planing on overclocking much or at all because its a laptop and i have only so much power to work with but im wondering for gaming and program launch/run speed how much of a diffrence does the 266Mhz gap effect the proformance

Depends on the price of the hardware, faster is better, so about a 20% speed increase.

I'd say 5 or 6% increase in fps with the 1066. Though that was done with xp, finally got everything working with widnows7, so I'll be running some final (I hope) tests this weekend.

Faster RAM doesn't have as much an effect as a faster CPU or GPU, but it will help. Between 700MHz and 1050MHz on my system I saw about a 2fps difference in minimum framerate when playing Fallout 3, and 4fps difference in average framerate.
