I'm sure there have been other topics kind of like this one, but I'm having an issue myself. My power supply is an Antec 850W shown here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371009

It has 2 6-pin and 2 8-pin power connectors. I'm running a Radeon 4870 which is currently using both my my 6 pin power connectors. The issue is I wanted to buy a second video card. Either a 4850 or a 3870 to try out Crossfire. The trouble is, these cards all are connected with a 6-pin power connector.

So the real question I'm asking is, is there an adapter that can convert my power supply's 8-pin connector into a 6-pin connector to hook up to the video card?

Welcome to tsf. You can only crossfire identical gpu's. Meaning it must be a 4870 with a 4870. You can't crossfire any crossfire compatilbe gpu's with eachother, they must match.

And yes they do make 6 pin to 8 pin adapters. However I'm not sure if they are universal.

check that. AMD changed the rules. any x8x0 series card and be crossfired, but the results for combinations are marginal. The most optimal is when the gpu is the same.

most cards come with one 8 to 6 adapter (yes they're universal).

Update on this: I received my video card in the mail today and they will not Crossfire. I installed the drivers and the option doesn't show up in Catalyst. I've been running about other forums looking for answers and apparently the 3800's don't Crossfire with the 4800's. I feared this was going to happen, but I had heard both you could and you couldn't, so I figured I would try for myself.
