Hey everybody, I'm making a new rig and I can't decide which CPU to get. I was looking at the AMD 64 X2 3800+, but its operating freq is only 2.0ghz, compared to 2.4 on the regular 3800+.

Now, this rig is going to be mainly a gaming rig (with some DVD ripping and buring and whatnot), so is the X2 noticeably better than the regular 3800? I mean, which will give me better performance in games?

Thanks for your help!!!

I'm no expert, but from what I know, unless you are multitasking, you would probably be fine with the straightup 3800+. But if you want to rip you DVD's and game at the same time, go Dual Core.

Well, I want this to last me a while though, and since games should start to support dual-cores sooner or later, would it be a good idea to spend an extra $30 and get one? Do you know if there's a lot of overclockability in the X2s?

If it is only 30 bucks, go Dual Core, Definitly. I actually saw 3800 X2 in a retail computer last week (best buy ad).
