I had two drives set up on my XP machine when i had to do a restore. ( I'm
not sure if it was a complete restore or repair.) The c drive was for the os of course, along with a folder of app setup files ("program files). The E drive was used mostly for video files that were played with media programs that were on the C drive. Heres the thing: When the restore was complete, the C drive was ok, but the E drive was changed to "D". I cant play any of those files now, and I think the reason is because something wants these files to
emanate from the "E" named drive(I had the primary connector attached to the E drive before the restore. For some reason, I think I switched the cable connection to the slave connector just before I performed the restore and so when it was finished the E drive still had it's contents but was now the "D" drive.) Whats the easiest fix for this? Is there any way to change the 2nd drives' name back to "E"? If I have to do another restore to change the letter
back to E it's ok, I havent loaded all my apps yet. I hope I'm explaining this correctly... I might need step by step detail on how to fix this!

Go to Start/Run and type diskmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Disk Management window What is the the E: drive now? To change the D: drive back, right click it and choose Change Drive Letter or Path. If there is another drive taking up E:, lets say the CD drive, change that drive to any other drive letter like S: then change the drive letter of the D: drive to E: You can leave it this way, or you can change the CD drive back to D: Restart to make sure it's all good.

If you didn't install the executable program(s) to the non-system drive, changing the drive name shouldn't cause a problem.

What program are you using to try to open what kind of file?

And why did you run a System Restore? Were you infected?
