i have a 1999 s-10 and i have replaced the fuel pump and filter twice and my truck will only run for a minute and then sputter out what is wrong please help thanks

i have also removed the exhaust so its not stopping air flow

if anyone has a clue let me know please

how many miles on it
does the check engine come on when it is running
will it restart
can you keep it running by giving it gas

If the engine has direct fuel injection look on the fuel rail and you will see a pressure regulator that looks like a small diaphram. If it is bad it will not allow the correct pressure and the injectors will not work correctly.

it has 140000 miles on it. giving it gas doesnt helpno check engine light and it will start back sometimes but die again after a minute or so

Even though you've replaced the fuel pump, it sure sounds like it's took another vacation.

but i have put two new fuel pumps in it already and it keeps doing the same thing

Did you replace just the pump and strainer or the entire hanger assembly?

How is the electrical connection at the pump?? Are the locking tabs broke??

the tlocking tabs are fine and i replace the whole thing twice and the fuel filter

The fuel pump is not the only component that can give out in the fuel system, there are other factors that can affect fuel delivery. Pat mcgroin, sable, and midnight tech already mentioned the possibilities of why the fuel won't go through the system. On your third post you mentioned that you hit the gas tank to get it started, this is a clear indication of a bad ground connection to the fuel pump or the wire harness from the pump to the fuse/relay box. A bad connection to the pump will burn the pump prematurely because of the start/stop action of the impeller when the field windings of the pump are energized. There is also possibility of a short circuit across terminals within the molex connector. You will need to do a thorough inspection and open the wire harness to look for corroded wires that may have fused with one another.

how sure are we that it is a fuel problem ... have you ever tested to see if its getting fuel or not
