I have a 96 cavalier with an alarm system, was already in car when I bought it, and not factory installed. A couple weeks ago I went to start it and it wont turn over completely, and I noticed I have no dash lights and blinkers dont work, but headlights, interior lights and radio work, Oh and the alarm system decided to stop working several months ago, I swear ever since that alarm stopped working I have experienced weird car problems. I have been told by a couple people that it could be my ignition switch,or my fuel pump, and then a few people have said it sounds electrical, also my fuel pump makes no sound like it should when you turn the key right before you start it, thats why someone thought fuel pump, but how do you explain the light situation? Does it sound like my weird alarm system could be causing this? I cant take my car anywhere cause I cant move it. I have someone that is going to look at it, I was able to get a wiring diagram of my car. Any ideas at this point would wonderful, I need my car. Thank you.

Good Afternoon lori45, I am not familiar with that vehicle, but would suggest your alarm is involved with the problem.

In some machines a body control module and or an ignition control module is used to take the load off accessory switching but sometimes has effect with ignition inhibiting.

I would suggest obtaining a Haynes Manual for that specific vehicle and trying to nut the thing out using their troubleshooting schematics. (if they have one for that machine)

In earlier times you would expect power to be directly switched by the ignition switch and all these fancy circuits powered by that means, times have changed, in many cases the ignition switch nowdays simply enables a control module to carry the load and they really produce some wierd effects when they become defective.

Others will have different ideas.

Cheers, qldit.
