1.0 gig processor only running at 744hz

OK...I own a Compaq Presario series 7000 and while still under warranty had to have the mother board replaced. Apparently, the geniuses at CompUSA didn't set the mother board correctly because my 1.0 gig processor now runs at 744hz. I emailed AMD directly and this is their response:
the most likely reason your processor is running at 744hz is due to the version of your processor and the FSB setting on the motherboard. I believe you have a "C" version part (266FSB) processor but your board is set to run the FSB at 100Mhz (200Mhz data throughput). There should be a jumper on the board, or a setting in the bios, that will allow you to run the bus at 133Mhx (266Mhz data throughput)
My processor is indeed supposed to run th FSB at 266. Who here knows how to fix this? I don't trust taking it back to CompUSA and honestly don't want to be without it for another 2 weeks.

Thanks for your help!
Rick

Welcome to the forum, there is no way to do it without voiding the warrenty on the computer- I think they put a piece of tape on it and if the tape is broke, no warrenty.

If you don't care about warrentys (I allways ignore them!) It will probably be easy to find and there won't be any neon signs saying "HERE'S THE JUMPER!!!!" but I would bet money it is well marked with 100/ 133 or 200/ 266.

Good luck, I did a quick search and due to "the C word"'s propriatary nature a picture will be hard to find.
It's out of warranty anyway. forgive my ingnorance...but if and when I find the jumper is it just a switch that I flip...surely it's not that simple.

Thanks
Rick
If you still have the MoBo manual, look for the cpu speed jumper youll want to set it to 133mhz. if no manual check the compaq website they should have it
