OK...I own a Compaq Presario series 7000 and while still under warranty had to have the mother board replaced. Apparently, the geniuses at CompUSA didn't set the mother board correctly because my 1.0 gig processor now runs at 744hz. I emailed AMD directly and this is their response:

My processor is indeed supposed to run th FSB at 266. Who here knows how to fix this? I don't trust taking it back to CompUSA and honestly don't want to be without it for another 2 weeks.the most likely reason your processor is running at 744hz is due to the version of your processor and the FSB setting on the motherboard. I believe you have a "C" version part (266FSB) processor but your board is set to run the FSB at 100Mhz (200Mhz data throughput). There should be a jumper on the board, or a setting in the bios, that will allow you to run the bus at 133Mhx (266Mhz data throughput)
Thanks for your help!
