Thanks for the greeting Corday. This date is always a mixed emotion for me as it was also my late father's birthday as well. He would have been 89 had I not lost him in 2011 to cancer.

I still look forward to the picnics and other happenings, but it is also tempered with a feeling of incompleteness now. I guess it will always be so, seeing as the holiday was so centered around family and his great grilling skills. Now I season the meat and my brother does the grilling. Traditions must go on, even as the division of labor may change.

Happy 4th to all for whom it is relevant.

Happy 4th all.....the day is here. A day of parades, picnics, cookouts, and general family fun. Red, White, and Boom was held last night in Columbus (Ohio) which draws crowds in excess of 400K.....I was part of that crowd many years ago. Oldest g-kid went with friends.....I'll have to ask her how it was (when she wakes up). 12 year old will participate in her first official duty as one of her school's cheerleaders by walking in the local parade.....she's excited.....
