Animated Avatar Restriction

This is a discussion on Animated Avatar Restriction within the Comments & Announcements forums, part of the Tech Support Forum category. I saw this sticky but it doesn't explain why I'm not allowed to use a .gif file as my avatar.

I saw this sticky but it doesn't explain why I'm not allowed to use a .gif file as my avatar. I've seen other users with them though.

It gives me the following error when I try to do so:

Code:
You may not upload animated images.
I can't remember the user that had the .gif but it was an animation or cartoon of some sort.

I've just changed your avatar to an animated gif to test. Try again with a gif of your choice. If it doesn't work, send me a link and I'll change it for you.

If you can find a way to up this gif, I'd appreciate it. Seems to be too big, both in file size and dimension. Haven't been able to resize it correctly using freeware. Always blurs or doesn't seem proportional.

It works, but at least in my browser and blowing up to 800% in Paint, I can't figure out what it is. I didn't mean the lion,I meant the first one. For the lion, try a thumbnail.

I've reduced the size to 20% to keep it under 100x100 using Online GIF Resizer. Is that ok?

Hmm, thanks koala, but I'll try something else; doesn't pack enough punch down to that size. Thanks though.

What's your Avatar History?
Was looking at a few people's avatar here at TSF and noticed some very interesting ones. I've been wanting to ask this for a while, so I thought this a good time to do it. I guess the question is; Why do you have that avatar? Is there history behind it? Does it describe you well? Do you just...
