We installed Yosemite a while back. Unfortunately we did not have the most current version of iPhoto. Many of our photos did not make it into Photos. There appears to be a spot for them but when I exported no data came with it.

What I think I need to do is get into my old iPhoto library and export the pictures. However, because it was not the latest version I am unable to open the old iPhoto application.

Any suggestions on how I can get to those photos? This particular Mac was not backed up. Another has been but I would like to get these. I am sure there are pictures here that are not on the other.

thanks for your help.

Download iPhoto 9.6 from the App store. Then download iPhoto Library Manager. Then Rebuild your library: https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0

Spunk.Funk, thanks for all the information. But I can not find iPhoto 9.6 on either the App Store or Apple site to download to allow me to fix. I have an older mac that can not take Yosemite. It has iPhoto. There is no longer an option to allow for any newer versions. So still stuck.

So What OS do you have installed? You should be able to install Lion 10.7.

Spunk-Funk, sorry, I did not mean to abandon your help. I was away for a couple of days without access.

On the machine with the unreachable iPhoto library I am running Yosemite. I do have a mac i am running Lion. If I can get the pictures from the iMac (Yosemite) onto a hard drive attached to my MacBook Pro (Lion) I would be able to run the library manager and rebuild the file. Just can't figure a way to get them off the iMac.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

If you can view your pictures on your iMac, then copy them to a USB Flash Drive or USB HDD and then attach them to the Yosemite computer and drag them to your pictures folder. Open iPhoto and it should find them.

thanks, I will give it a try. I know it will work for the pictures I can see, but there are many that show as blank when I look at the photos. Like there was a place for them just no data. No harm in trying. I will give it a shot.
