I have an appleTV that I am trying to use to project lesson information for my classroom onto a large screen tv from my iphone 6s. I worked it all out, but then realized that if someone calls me or I want to use my phone during class, everything would be displayed, including incoming phone call numbers and texts. Is this how it would actually work? Is there a way I can just have the screen I want projected from my phone showing, while being able to use my phone at the same time? I was also wondering if the screen would retain the image when my phone goes to sleep.

Lastly, if this doesn't work, what's the cheapest ipad I can buy nowadays that will get this job done?

Why not put your phone in Airplane Mode while teaching?

Interesting. So no calls would come through or show on the display? What about texts?

During your lesson In Airplane mode, there will be no notifications of any kind coming thru. No Emails, Texts, Calls or other notifications, until you take it out of Airplane Mode

Any idea why mirroring turns off after about 5 minutes? I want my phone to sleep as always, but the tv screen to keep the display from my phone on indefinitely.

Okay, so I figured out from a friend how to set it so the screen doesn't go black by changing a sleep setting on my iphone. However, I can't do airplane mode to block incoming calls because that cuts my phone off from the wifi that connects it to the appletv! Duh.

Try turning on the do not disturb setting.

OK. New problem. When I am projecting on the screen, sometimes some idiot will connect to my appleTV and project something else. I talked to our IT person and there is no administrator network that will keep kids off. Any kid can turn on their iphone and see my appleTV. Then they just sign on to it and it bumps my screen. Is there any way I can put a lock on this?

Make a Pass Code for your Apple TV https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT200198

I am setting airplay to require a password rather than a code. But when I go to mirror with my phone, it goes right in, not asking for the password. I have to choose the password option on the appleTV and type in the password each time for my phone to get the message that to mirror it needs the password. Of course, I'm doing this to test what kids would get on their phones.

I think it may be that my phone is just automatically remembering the password and so its not being prompted for it regularly.
