Actually the title should be 'Nobody wants to admit it's their fault...'

Ok, it's an old iMac, running OS X 10.6.8, and gradually websites aren't supporting it any more.

But on Friday I found I couldn't send emails any more. This applied to my phone, my wife's iPad and her phone. I can receive emails ok.

Turned off the router just for something to try, but no change. So I'm thinking this is an offsite problem. Only started talking to people yesterday. First two people at BT, who basically said it wasn't their problem, before putting me on hold and cutting me off.

Although BT is my ISP, when I changed to them I kept my original Globalnet email address, as it was my business point of contact. Globalnet were taken over by Madasafish, who were then eventually taken over by Plusnet.

Spoke to a couple of Plusnet people today, again put on hold and cut off. Before doing so they said it wasn't their fault either. It must be a Mac problem, they said.

My question is this: What do I do if no-one is apparently able or willing to help?

I know it's an old machine, but email's only half not working. And I can still send emails using mail2web.com

Any thoughts?

Many thanks Spunk. I'll give this a go.

Any idea why existing settings no longer worked from Friday though?

Cheers.

It looks like the end of the road I'm afraid.

Both BT and Plusnet said the problem could be with the Mac Mail application, asI xcan send emails via webmail. When I spoke to Apple technical support today, Abel from Portugal agreed. The computer's ten years old, very old OS and browser.

Hold on... The computer might be knackered, but I can't send emails on my iPhone either.

So we're back to looking for an offsite problem...

Contact ISP to get your iPhone Email sorted, then use those same settings for Mac Mail.
