I recently applied for remote work so I can be productive. Problem is, my laptop is a bit dated and still running on i3. Using the tools alone (around 10 running simultaneously) gives a slightly noticeable reduction in performance. Using Hangouts freezes the laptop.

Can I please get a recommendation for a Linux distro that can support browser-based tools and Google Hangouts?

Google Ready Boost. You might not need a new distro if Linux has an equivalent.

Thanks! I'll look into these after I try Corday's suggestion.

I currently have Win10 installed so I might need to switch to Linux if Ready Boost does not help. Thanks, Corday.

BTW, I forgot to mention I will need to install a tool that only has a Windows installer. How can I do that in Linux, if at all possible?

Sorry but Ready Boost isn't helping.

How can I install a Windows application on Linux please? The lightest possible solution.

Turn off transparent mode. The i3 should still be sufficient.

I would suggest Doing a Windows 10 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows 10 ISO file .

An i3 should not be doing what you say it's doing under the circumstances you describe.
